Choir Heads South For Break: The Choir Show Their Skills in Sunny Florida

For some of us, spring break meant shoveling piles of snow and suffering from the harsh Minnesota winter weather, but not for the juniors and seniors in choir, who lounged on the sandy beaches of the sunniest state, Florida.

On Saturday, March 4, the choir crew left behind the land of 10,000 frozen lakes, and arrived in paradise. They stayed until wednesday evening of that week, and the cost of this vacation was $1600. Some prepared for weeks in advance before the trip by utilizing tanning beds, and others just woke up and hopped on the plane.

“I prepared for the trip by procrastinating and packing the morning of the trip,” said junior Brady Blowers.

A trip to Florida not only meant that the crew could explore the green palm trees and warm beaches along the Key West strip of land, but they also got a chance to perform twice. Their performances were located in a plaza at Key West High School.

“It was interesting seeing the songs they did and different techniques they used for singing,” said junior Hayley Vandemark.

Performing in a different state can be different for those used to performing in Minnesota.

“There was a fountain behind us when we performed and it threw off the way we sounded,” said junior Zach Baumgarn.

The weather back in Minnesota was low 30’s and meanwhile in Florida it was in the high 70’s.

“Tuesday we went snorkeling, and we were basically dropped off in the middle of the ocean,” said junior Victoria Snyder.

Others enjoyed snorkeling as well.

“I enjoyed snorkeling at the reef as well,” said Baumgarn.

So tanning and swimming was a definite possibility, where many memories could be made.

“My favorite memory was going jet skiing with my mom,” said Vandemark, “and holding the alligators.”
