This year, SFHS welcomed a new group of exchange students from various countries, allowing them to see what life in the U.S. and at St. Francis is really like.
The exchange program places students here annually, giving both host families and peers the chance to understand new cultures and perspectives.
“School is pretty different here compared to Germany,” said Sophia Kuehnle. “In Germany, we can’t really choose our own classes.”
She said there are many more elective choices.
“There are so many more options,” she said. “It makes school feel more fun and enjoyable.”
Sophia shared how she transitioned from Germany to the U.S.
“I thought it was going to be a lot harder for me to get used to,” she said, “but I settled in right away!”
She feels that the people of St. Francis have made it better for her.
“I enjoy how friendly and welcoming people are at SFHS and in the community,” said Sophia. “It makes it much easier to adjust to the new setting.”
In fact, the people are her favorite part of the exchange so far.
“What I like most about living here is the people,” said Sophia, “and I really like my host family.”
Sophia and her host family have done many fun activities since she arrived in Minnesota.
“We like to go shopping,” said Sophia. “It’s one of my favorite things to do here.”
She likes the different kinds of stores here and the bigger selection of clothes.
Sophia said she’s looking forward to the year.
“I hope to try new activities and learn more about American culture.”
