Multiple new foreign exchange students arrived at SFHS this year, giving them an opportunity to learn more about U.S culture and the St. Francis community.

Every year students from other countries get placed at SFHS in the exchange program which also gives host families and their classmates more understanding about those cultures. Lotte Seliger lives with her host family the Schoenrock’s.

“I really enjoy living with her,” said her host sister Emily. “ I had to learn how to share my space which I never had to do before.”

Taking the car everywhere is a huge change for Seliger. “In Germany I used to have to ride my bike to school everyday,” she said.

Many of their host families have set up special experiences for them. The Schoenrock family has done many activities like going to the state fair, trips around the United States, and NBA basketball games. 

“I really liked the corn from the state fair,” said Lotte “It was definitely my favorite thing I tried” 

They told us about some things they are excited to try in our school. “I think I’m going to play basketball and run track,” said Seliger.

She also told us about the differences in sports here compared to back in her home country.

“At home we have more club sports and soccer is more popular” 

She has already participated in a cross country season.

“I loved making new friends,” she said, “and getting to try something new.”
