Many people make an abundance of food and treats for their Thanksgiving feasts.

Thanksgiving started as a tradition to give thanks for blessings of the harvest the previous year. Thanksgiving is celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November. The first Thanksgiving was celebrated in October of 1621. Since then it has evolved into a widespread holiday to gather with family and friends to give thanks for everything we have in our lives. Many people do different things including, watching the parade, getting together with family and eating tons of food, while others choose not to celebrate the holiday.

“My favorite Thanksgiving tradition is getting completely stuffed and laying on the couch and watching football,” says Brad Krause.

Many people look forward to seeing family and friends on the holiday, but most people also enjoy the extravagant seasonal foods they only get once a year. While the arguments arise about whether white or dark meat is better, or who gets the last dinner roll, everyone is still happy to be rejoiced with the people they love.

“Going to my uncle’s house and playing flag football with my nephews.” said freshman Aaron Smith while talking about his favorite Thanksgiving tradition.

Thanksgiving is a time for family and friends to get together and give thanks to everything they have in their lives. Some families give back on Thanksgiving by going out of their way and giving food to the less fortunate or helping out people in need by whatever means necessary.

On Thanksgiving I get together with my family in order to celebrate the holiday and spend time together with them. Along with celebrating the holiday, we also celebrate my birthday together since it is so close to Thanksgiving. We enjoy watching the parade together and eating a nice large meal.

“We put up the christmas tree on Thanksgiving.” said  sophomore Samantha Schouveller.

It is great that everybody has their own traditions for Thanksgiving and find their own ways to celebrate the holiday. Although we all cherish it differently, it is amazing that everybody can still come together and enjoy this kickoff to the holiday season.
