Saints lose in sudden death to Buffalo

The skates were laced up on Thursday, December 19, as the St. Francis Varsity Hockey boys prepared to play against Buffalo.
Their game was on their own ice at the East Bethel Ice Arena. The fighting Saints had a record of 2-5, and their coach was only dressing eight players. Superfans arrived early to get good seats and prepare for a good game ahead of them.

Junior captain Lucas Carroll scored the first goal for the Saints, assisted by assistant captain Ben Falk. Buffalo scored as well in the first period, assisted by two other players. The goalie for the game was Logan Garaghty, who blocked 41 goals overall in the game. By the third period Buffalo scored again, and the Saints fought back with full strength in attempt to keep the puck away from the goal.

There was an atmosphere of determination as the battle went on between both teams. Overall Buffalo had 23 minutes in the penalty box and 6 infractions, while St. Francis had only 10 minutes in the box and 6 infractions.

As the third period came to an end, Lucas Carroll scored again, leaving the score as 2-2 for the short intermission. When third period began the Saints had a little bit of a lag as they skated due to how much they had been playing that night without subs. The score was tied as the final buzzer went off, and the boys headed into sudden death.

Everything began to heat up as both teams raced after the puck. Tyler Struntz attempted to cover the puck with his hands to protect it from going into the goal, although a penalty shot was called because of that. Buffalo scored on the penalty shot, and the sudden death was over with Buffalo coming up with the win.
