The right to bear arms?

Columbine, Aurora movie theater, Sandy Hook;
every time one of these incidents happen it brings up the
discussion of gun control. Will stricter gun control laws
help prevent these tragedies happening? Some people
might think so, but many might say gun control laws will
not stop criminals from acquiring these dangerous weapons.
Some people who have committed these acts
have had some sort of psychological issues, for example;
the man responsible for the Washington Naval Yard
shooting has also had past histories of violence involving
firearms.
An assembly woman from New Jersey proposed
a bill that would require citizens to submit results of a psychological
evaluation before purchasing a firearm. The bill
would also require applicants to have an on-site inspection,
and evaluation of the household where the firearm
would be located.
Half of The Crier staff thinks this bill would solve
a lot of gun violence issues according to past histories of
mass shooters, but the other half thought this law would
not keep criminals from getting these weapons.
I believe more strict gun control will have no effect on
how many mass shootings occur here in the United States.
Why would laws keep a criminal from committing a
crime? No matter how many laws you pass, crimes will
still be committed, and creating more gun laws would be
unfair and hurt the majority of gun owners who are law
abiding citizens. Instead of creating more laws the government
should enforce laws already in place.
Overall I think the cat’s already out of
the bag; once you put something out
on the streets, it’s almost impossible
to remove it completely.
