HOSA elects new officers

As the year kicks off, many clubs are taking care of new-year business. HOSA, for example, has just elected new officers via an intense process, headed by the club’s adviser, Kathy Weiland.

HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) formed a chapter at SFHS in 2007. Students involved must be currently enrolled in a medical careers vocational class, and meet each Wednesday after school.

The students in HOSA, along with Weiland, have just announced their new officers to the public. Students wishing to be officers filled out an application, which included writing a letter answering a series of questions, all showing why they would be a good officer.

Next the students prepared a speech, gave it to their fellow HOSA members, and the students voted. But this wasn’t the final decision. Mrs. Weiland also talked to the candidates’ teachers about their behavior and leadership qualities. She then made a final decision based on the letter, votes, and teachers’ input.

The new officers are: President Nichole Walker, President Elect Evan Molin, Vice President Christina Brand, Secretary/Treasurer Monica Johnson and Personal Relations Officers Emily Storm and Erica McDonough.

“It wasn’t just the vote, it was a lot of things,” said Weiland. “I’m very happy with the officers we have this year.”
