As fall sports came to an end, winter sports started up last week. Senior captains Maddie Johnson and Cally Peterson gave their input about the first few weeks  of the basketball season.

Traditionally the girls have two practices a day, one in the morning beginning at 5:45 am and one at night from 4:15 to 7:15.

¨Morning practice was kinda rough,¨ said Johnson, ¨but you have to start the season off somewhere.¨

Meanwhile Peterson thought it went pretty well.

With a tough end to the season last year in the quarter finals, Peterson said ¨I think the season this year is going to go not terrible, but pretty good.¨

Johnson was hopeful.

¨We should have a lot more wins than last year,¨ said Johnson. “We put a lot of work in during the summer.”

Starting in June and running into the end of July, the girls team held camps and scrimmages.

Both Peterson and Johnson are two sport athletes. Peterson played her final season of tennis for the Saints this fall, and Johnson finished off her career with Saints soccer.

As their final basketball season begins, they both agreed that the most important thing about their high school sports careers has been their friendships.

¨We are looking forward to having one last season with the girls,¨ said Johnson.
