Football Season Begins with New Coaches

Head coach Torson speaks to media staff about the season

With this year’s football season wrapping up, some of the coaches’ roles on the team were changed starting with their head coach Tracy Torson.

This year’s football season changed for him from last year as  he moved from the defensive coordinator position to this year as the head coach.

“ The biggest difference has been behind the scenes,” said Torson.“It’s not necessarily the X’s and O’s but it’s been more about the scheduling and making sure that everything is running on track.”

With so many seniors leaving last year, Torson sees that the team has changed in many different ways.

“Positives that I’ve seen are  that the players are continuing to show up every day –  continuing to work hard,” he said. “We can see it week by week that the the skills are starting to progress. They’re becoming more comfortable out there with the speed of the game.”

Mike Stoffel’s role on the team also changed from being the wide receiver coach to the new outside linebacker coach.

“Now I’m just looking at it at a different perspective to find out what the offense is doing as opposed to my old role what the defense is trying to do,” said Stoffel.

Stoffel has been a coach for Saint Francis for many years, but still with each season he is seeing changes. This season he faced a big change with his new coaching position.

“I was a wide receiver coach for the past 18 years. This is my first year as a defensive coach, “said Stoffel. “I helped coach the outside linebackers when I was a wide receiver coach.”

With this season wrapping up Torson hopes to see some more wins with their record being 1:8.

He is not sure when, but he believes it will all come together as their confidence climbs.

“The biggest thing that we can ask for is that they continue to grow and continue to mature,” Torson said.
