Have you ever wanted to be a life-saver or even a superhero? Well these modern-day life-savers donate their own blood so others can live.
“When you donate one pint of blood,” said Sharon Bergman, NHS Advisor, “it actually saves three people’s lives.”
The blood drive hosted at Saint Francis High School in the gyms, is on October 23rd from 8:30 to 1:30.
“There’s a bunch of posters with QR codes.” said Bergman, also “a week or two before the blood drive, we’re going to have signups at lunch.”
The signup process is fairly easy with only one exception; in order to donate blood you must be 16 years or older. If you are 16 years old a parent or guardian must sign a form to allow you to donate. There are many ways to sign up for this life-saving event and everyone involved is hoping for a big show out this year.

“The main purpose of the blood drive is to actually get new donors,” said Bergman.
The blood drive is used as a safe and easy outreach to people in our community to introduce them to donating blood.
“It does serve other purposes,” Bergman said, “mostly because it saves lives… and we also use it to help with some scholarship money.”

“I actually started donating when I was in college,” said Bergman.
She was unaware of the opportunity to donate blood as a college student until her father asked her to try it out.
As a younger person, donating blood wasn’t very appealing, “I was scared but I did”, said Bergman.
She is an example of being afraid and sacrificing things for other people’s well being.
Bergman’s story has now taken a very uplifting turn, “Since then I have donated over 40 times… I’ve had blood go to California, out east, and even in the Bahamas,” says Bergman.
So sign up and show up October 23rd to help people in need and join this life-saving crew!
