SAINT FRANCIS COED VARSITY CROSS COUNTRY

Distance running takes a special type of athlete with determination and endurance.

This season, the SFHS Cross Country team is small in number, but working hard toward its goals.

“The season’s been going good,” said senior Walter Guse. “We’ve had several top 10 finishers in our races.”

Runners have different reasons for being a part of the team.

“Since I was younger, I’ve always liked to run,” said junior Ali Aaneson. “I thought I’d join and I’ve loved it ever since.”

Junior Amber Lawrence decided to join to continue running with her friend Aaneson.

“I also run track so I thought it would be beneficial for both of us,” said Lawrence.

While Guse wishes State were a possibility, he realizes the boys team does not have enough people to qualify. However, the girls still hope to make it to State level competition.

“But we’re doing really well,” said Guse, who is determined to be the best athlete he can be.
