As the winter season nears the end, our beloved winter sports come to an end as well.
After a long, cold, and rough season the Northern Edge boys hockey team ended their 2024-25 season with a grueling record of 6-19. As a player on the high school team for the past two years, I realized that the team may have suffered quite a beating throughout the season, but as always, a bittersweet ending to a not-so-great season leaves everyone wondering where the time goes.
The Northern Edge played its final game against a familiar rival – the Cambridge-Isanti BlueJackets.
“Everything you have worked for has led to this,” said coach Eric Thompson to his senior players. “Honor everything you have learned in all your years of playing and leave it all on the ice.”
As the final minutes counted down the bench became silent and grim as everyone was filled with sorrow. The seniors played their last minutes with the brothers they hold dear and juniors lost the older brothers they have looked up to since the very first years of playing.
As the last buzzer sounded the finale to our season, we may have walked out of the rink with a loss, but inside we were winners. We were winners for forming a family that we can always come back to and rely on. The bond we share with each other is better than any win, loss, or tie and the memories we have created we will cherish forever.
