Four-year high school wrestling veteran Adam Blue, is the only senior that is participating on the SFHS wrestling team this year.

With the winter season half over, the wrestling team has had a season of 8 and 6, while adjusting to the loss of some seniors from last year and making its way in the new Mississippi 8 conference.

Coach Mike Phillips is happy with the switch to the new conference which he believes has better competition and stronger traditions.
The team has been led by its only senior, Adam Blue. Blue has been wrestling for all four years of high school and has worked on how to be a leader.

“Being the only senior on the team, I feel like a father figure to the younger guys,” said Blue.

He says he is always looking for ways to have a positive impact and improve the team as a whole.

“Being vocal and leading by example are a couple of ways to earn the title of being called a leader of the team,” he said. “Also you have to put in more hours than the average athlete and prove yourself.”

Adam may be the only senior on the team, but he isn’t the only leader. Junior Aaron Wilson has been wrestling since he was in kindergarten.

“Wrestling camps and giving your best effort in practice are good ways of improving,” said Wilson.

Aaron Wilson’s twin brother Alex is also on the team. He believes having only one senior on the team may seem like a setback, but as long as the team has younger guys who are willing to step up and lead, they can still achieve their goals.

“From this point we can only get better as the next year comes,” said Aaron Wilson. “Most of the guys next year will have more varsity experience.”
