Robert Arrett, Writer

In America we are lucky enough to have people in the army who fight for our country.

Senior Robert Arrett enlisted in the army two weeks ago.

“I was first interested when I was ten years old and my brother joined and got deployed,” said Arrett.

Even though Arrett discovered his interest at such a young age, he continued to think about the military as a post high school option.

“I made the final decision when I talked with my recruiter,” he said.

His recruiter talked to him about the pros of committing while still in high school. Some perks included being a senior with a senior cash incentive; however, what interested Arrett was the possibility of the military as a stepping stone to the FBI or CIA. Jobs like that take extensive preparation and training, but so does being in the army.

“I'm preparing by working out everyday with basic workouts - so like push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, and a lot of running,” he said.

While Arret is fully committed, the one thing he is worried about is his mom.

“My mom had to cosign for me to enlist and it made her cry a lot," said Arrett, "so I am worried about her."- Profile by Lorel Breuer
