Planning for the future

Rachel Beckman, a senior on the varsity volleyball team has been playing the sport since she was in fourth grade. Aside from playing for the high school, Beckman has also played for a club team called Wicked Moose for two years and is playing for Premier this summer.
“I started playing in fourth grade,” said Beckman, “I tried out for a few different sports but volleyball seemed to really pop out to me.”
Beckman has played multiple positions over the years. While she played for the B-squad she played left side and when she moved up to varsity her sophomore year, she started playing middle and right side.
“I would have to say my favorite position is probably outside.” said Beckman. “It’s where most of the power hitting is.”
Since she has been playing volleyball for almost ten years, Beckman has a large amount of memories that she was thrilled to share. This season seemed especially memorable to Beckman.
“My best volleyball memories,” said Beckman, “have to be when Caitlyn Luby always did her hunchback cat during practice and when when Rachel Ulrich had some attitude.”
Rachel’s biggest fans she says would have to be her parents and grandparents. Another fan would be her sister, sophomore Hannah Beckman, who loves to see Rachel do what she loves and work with others to achieve her goals.
“I go to a lot of school games but not as many club games.” says Hannah Beckman. “My sister is both a friend and a role model. She pushes me to be the best I can be and she is always there for me. I can tell her anything.”
Recently, Rachel has been signed with Vermillion Community College in Ely Minnesota to continue playing volleyball while furthering her education. Rachel is one of the only senior girls planning on playing volleyball while in college.
“I actually didn’t plan on going to Vermillion until my coach brought up that they were looking for volleyball players,” said Beckman. “It’s actually a really nice school. I’m really happy with my choice to go there.”
