Power Play by Lindsay Price placed 2nd in the MSHSL 7AA sub-section on Saturday, January 28, earning a spot to compete for State at the section finals where it placed 3rd at the competition hosted by Cambridge High School.
The cast prepared for competition by performing Friday, January 20 for an audience of family and friends. In addition, members of the SFHS Drama Club performed a series of student directed scenes.
Power Play takes the stereotypes of high school and thrusts them into re-enacting an instance of school violence. The audience knows from the beginning that one of the five characters won’t live to see the end of the play and that one is responsible for the act of violence, but Price keeps her audience guessing. It’s a fast-paced, moving script that puts the issue of school violence in the spotlight, literally.
Cambridge-Isanti took first place at sub-sections with its performance of Property Rites by Alan Haehnel, while Chisago Lakes performed Ed Monk’s At the Bottom of Lake Missoula and Princeton performed Offerings, also by Haehnel. Cambridge went on to win first place at sections and will travel to State to represent the 7AA section. Duluth Denfield took second with The Crane Maiden.
