New scoreboard scores big with players and fans

After many years of using a run down scoreboard, a new scoreboard, costing a total of $98,000, was installed facing the field to excite fans and represent  school spirit.

The reason for a replacement of the scoreboard was because there were times where it just failed. A month went by once without the scoreboard even working, and nobody knew what was wrong with it until they discovered it was struck by lightening. The bulbs were also burnt out and the 8’s would look like 6’s causing lots of confusion for everyone.

Activities Director Jeff Fink worked with the business office, tapped into a low interest loan and sold advertisements to well-known businesses in town like King’s County Market and Advanced Automotive. Sports teams like the football team also raised funds to help with the cost.

The scoreboard features a very well-run graphics board by Fink, and a fantastic sound system for everyone to hear.
“The only hassle with the scoreboard is getting the new pictures in as the years go by and new teams come in,” said Fink.

In order to learn more about the scoreboard, he is going to take a Webinar class in his spare time.

With the transitions of the scoreboards, there is a chance that the old scoreboard will either be put into the softball fields, or donated to the football field at the middle school to give the freshman a chance to play on those fields instead of the far soccer fields.

“The scoreboard is very cool, but would be cooler if the defense pictures of the boys who get the tackle, could get put up as well on the graphics screen,” said Senior varsity football captain Connor Tradewell.

Varsity Sophomore Blake Moreno said he likes seeing his face on the scoreboard when he makes a good play.

Many of the fans enjoy the scoreboard just as much as the players do.

“The scoreboard really helps me understand who did what on the play during the game,”  said Sophomore Ethan Scheuring.
