Faculty flash mob surprises Pepfest audience

Faculty flash mob surprises Pepfest audience

Sounds of laughter filled the school’s gym on Friday, October 5 as teachers stepped on the court.

St.Francis staff members Tammy Sworsky and Alysa Erickson joined the many teachers and staff of ISD 15 to form a flash mob during the homecoming Pepfest.

“We came up with the idea when the student council approached us and asked if we (Sworsky and Erickson) would choreograph a dance. We said ‘Heck yes,’ said Erickson.

Both Erickson and Sworsky had had previous dancing skills, so they were chosen to choreograph the dance.

“It was very difficult to keep it a secret. We had to schedule times when students couldn’t find out. Sometimes we would have to cover windows so people couldn’t look in,” said Erickson

They had around 12 practices because not all the staff members could make it to all of them. Only two of the practices were mandatory.

“I expected that everyone was going to be very excited and have a good laugh,” said the Career Center’s Dawn Abraham.

The choreographers were blown away that all the staff came together to make it all happen.

“At first I was confused about what was going on, but then I was really surprised and I thought it was very cute,” said junior dance team member Brooke Gardas.

The sneakiness and hard work of the staff payed off. The students loved it, giving a standing ovation.

“My favorite part was probably the element of surprise, and it made the pep fest a lot of fun,” said Abraham.
