Career Center helps students navigate the future

Students interested in exploring new careers and planning for the future can get help through the SFHS Career Center.

The career center has been around almost two decades, when Lisa Erickson started the model. Over the course of 15 years, Erickson developed relationships with businesses and helped develop the ties with Futures Prep classes.

“The purpose of the career center is to have a place where students can come when they have questions on college, career, job shadows, speakers, military information- really anything to do with life after high school,”  said Dawn Abraham, who took over the career center in 2013 and has been guiding it since.

Currently, Abraham is the only career advisor here.

“But I am really close with the counseling office,” said Abraham, “so we are all kind of one department together.”

The doors are open and students can stop in any time with questions or to set up an appointment.

“Just drop in when needed,” said Abraham.

Abraham said a lot of people come to the career center looking for high school students to hire. It can be a good way to get a foot in the door.

The career center even has a Twitter account and they encourage students to  follow them on twitter @sfcareercenter.

“We also have a facebook,” said Abraham. “If you just type in st.francis career center, you can follow information about colleges, scholarships job shadows and interviews.”
